“God The Ultimate Father”, Father’s Day Sermon, Heinrich Koorts, Thames Valley churches of Christ

Preacher:
Service Type:
  1. God is powerful
    • God as creator
    • God as guide: pillar of fire
    • God as provider: manna
    • God as rescuer: parting the sea
    • And he is our Father!
    • Are you in touch with God’s power?
    • What helps you to remember God’s power?

2. God is selfless
  • “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” (1 Peter 5:7 NIV11)
  • “This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him.” (1 John 4:9 NIV11)
  • Do you believe God cares for you?
  • Do you believe that He wants what is best for you?
  • We serve a selfless God - that’s a powerful argument for trusting him!

3. God is comforting

    • A comforter - someone who alleviates grief or distress
    • God wants to take on our distress.
    • “A psalm of David. When he fled from his son Absalom.
    • LORD, how many are my foes!
    • How many rise up against me!
    • Many are saying of me, “God will not deliver him.”
    • But you, LORD, are a shield around me, my glory, the One who lifts my head high.
    • I call out to the LORD, and he answers me from his holy mountain.
    • I lie down and sleep; I wake again, because the LORD sustains me.
    • I will not fear though tens of thousands assail me on every side.
    • Arise, LORD!
    • Deliver me, my God!
    • Strike all my enemies on the jaw; break the teeth of the wicked.
    • From the LORD comes deliverance.
    • May your blessing be on your people.” (Psalm 3:0–8 NIV11)
    • Think of Jesus in Gethsemane - he waited with God in prayer until the strength and comfort arrived.
    • Is God your first go to in times of comfort?
    • Do you seek comfort from God? if so, how?
  • How lucky we are to have God as our ultimate Father!
